The rule number one for gaming laptops is: if you want one, you need to shell out some serious cash. Those things are full of very powerful, gaming-oriented components that cost money. A prime example of such a notebook is ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH74 which, at a glance, seems to be a good toy for the gaming folk. But it also costs a lot, so let’s examine it carefully before making conclusion.
So how good is it for gaming?
Obviously, ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH74 is damn good for players, many things – the price, title (“Gaming Laptop”) and most importantly, the high-end graphics card GeForce GTX960M 4GB GDDR5 – suggest this. You will be able to play most, if not all, games on high/very high details and naturally, 1080p resolution. For example, you can expect at least 50 frames per second on GTA 5 played on high and 1920×1080. Another good example, The Witcher 3 (a very heavyweight game) will also run alright, giving around 30FPS on similar settings.
How about general performance?
Of course, running all sorts of applications will be a smooth sail as well. For the most part, you can thank the Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor for that. It is a quad-core chip with 2.6GHz clock speed and a lot higher 3.5GHz turbo boost. Belonging to the latest 6th generation (Skylake) you can expect solid performance; indeed, the average CPU Mark score at the moment seems to be ~8000. So it’s not the processor that is going to be slow on this computer!
Memory set-up is solid as well, with ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH74 featuring 16GB DDR4-type memory (2133MHz). I can’t say for sure if the distribution is two 8GB modules or one 16GB, however 32GB seems to be the maximum memory here.
Storage solution should be great for gamers and others, there’s 1TB 7200RPM SATA hard drive for the bulk of your data, and then 128GB M.2 solid-state drive for the files/programs you want to access fast. Operating system, Windows 10 Home (64-bit), is installed on the SSD. Both drives can also be replaced easily, there’s a special upgrade panel for this.
Connections & ports
ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH74 has in total four USB ports, two are USB 2.0, one is USB 3.0 and one is USB 3.1 Type C, which also supports Thunderbolt. The dedicated HDMI-out can be used to connect an extra display, like a desktop monitor.
DVD burner (doesn’t work with BluRay) is included. There’s also memory card reader for SD and MMC formats. This laptop can be connected to Internet using two methods: Gigabit RJ-45 port or the dual-band 802.11AC WiFi adapter (supports Bluetooth 4.0 as well). The notebook is equipped with a webcam, it offers 1.2MP resolution for video.

Other important factors
ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH74 has a large 17.3″ non-touch matte display, offering the gamer-proof 1920×1080 resolution. Panel type is most likely TN (no IPS). G-Sync is not supported. The included 4-cell 48Whrs battery will last around 2 hours if you’re gaming, bit more if browsing the web et cetera. It’s not an integrated battery so replacing it is easy. The keyboard has a red back light feature.
Verdict
Thanks to the GeForce GTX960M graphics card, there is no doubt about the gaming performance of ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH74. You are good to keep much eye candy on with all the games and enjoy very decent frame rates at the same time. On the other hand, also all software I can think of will run flawlessly here. Of course, such a powerful package costs money, but if you’re a player you know you need to spend some extra to get a proper gamer’s laptop like this ASUS is.
